1 . UN Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism


Context : Vice President appeals to world community to ensure early conclusion of UN Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism

About Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism

  • The Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism is a proposed treaty which intends to criminalize all forms of international terrorism and deny terrorists, their financiers and supporters access to funds, arms, and safe havens.
  • The CCIT was proposed by India in 1996
  • The negotiations are currently deadlocked even after two decades of proposal i.e. through 1996 till 2016.

Importance of CCIT

  • The CCIT provides a legal framework which makes it binding on all signatories to deny funds and safe havens to terrorist groups. 

Objectives

  • To have a universal definition of terrorism that all 193-members of the UNGA will adopt into their own criminal law
  • To ban all terror groups and shut down terror camps
  • To prosecute all terrorists under special laws
  • To make cross-border terrorism an extraditable offence worldwide.

2 . IN-BN CORPAT


About IN-BN CORPAT

  • IN-BN CORPAT is coordinated Patrol of Indian Navy(IN) –Bangladesh Navy(BN)
  • INS Ranvijay, a guided-missile destroyer and INS Kuthar, an indigenously built missile Corvette are participating in the CORPAT
  • The IN-BN CORPAT which commenced in 2018, is aimed at upgrading to a bilateral exercise with the navies engaging in seamanship evolutions, flying exercises with integral helicopters and maritime patrol aircraft at sea.
  • Additionally, exercises entailing the development of mutual communication and sharing of best practices would also be undertaken, adding a new dimension to the Indo – Bangladesh maritime relations.
  • With a common territorial boundary of over 4000 km and a maritime boundary, navies of both the counties aim to practice and hone their mutual cooperation whilst patrolling near the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) during the current edition of CORPAT.

3 . Kayakalp Awards


Context : Dr. Harsh Vardhan gives away Kayakalp awards to Public and Private Health Facilities for high standards of sanitation and hygiene

About the Awards

  • The Kayakalp Award was  instituted as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan  as a national initiative to recognize and felicitate public health facilities that demonstrate high levels of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control measure on promoting cleanliness in public spaces.
  • Objectives of the award scheme are to promote cleanliness, hygiene and infection control practices in public health care facilities, to incentivize and recognize such public healthcare facilities that show exemplary performance in adhering to standard protocols of cleanliness and infection control, to inculcate a culture of ongoing assessment and peer review of performance related to hygiene, cleanliness and sanitation, to create and share sustainable practices related to improved cleanliness in public health facilities linked to positive health outcomes.

4 . mHariyali


Context : Mobile App, “mHariyali” Launched for ‘Environment Protection in Government Colonies’ Website

About mHaryali

  • The app is aimed to encourage Public engagement in  planting  trees and other such Green drives.
  • People can now upload information/photos of any plantation done by them, which is linked to app and will be displayed on the website 
  • The App provides for automatic geo-tagging of plants.
  • This app will also enable nodal officers to periodically monitor the plantation. The App is user friendly and works on any android mobile phone.

5 . SARAS Aajeevika Mela


Context : SARAS Aajeevika Mela at India Gate Lawns

About SARAS Aajevika Mela

  • SARAS Aajeevika Mela is an initiative by the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM), Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), Government of India, with an objective to bring the rural women Self Help Groups (SHGs) formed with support of DAY-NRLM, under one platform to show-case their skills, sell their products and help them build linkages with bulk buyers.
  • Through participation in SARAS Aajeevika Mela, these rural SHG women get vital national level exposure to understand the demand and taste of urban customers.
  • The Mela is organised by the marketing arm of the Ministry, Council for Advancement of People’s Action and Rural Technology (CAPART).
  • Some of the highlights of Mela are:
    • Handloom:
      • Sarees – Kalamkari from Andhra Pradesh, Cotton and silk sarees from Bihar, Kosa sarees from Chhattisgarh, Tasar silk and cotton sarees from Jharkhand, IIkal sarees from Karnataka, Chanderi sarees and Bagh print sarees from Madhya Pradesh, Paithani and silk sarees from Maharashtra, Tasar and Banda sarees from Odisha, Kanchipuram sarees from Tamil Nadu, Pochampalli sarees from Telangana, Silk sarees from Uttar Pradesh, Pashmina sarees from Uttrakhand, Katha stitched sarees, Batik print, Tanth and Baluchari sarees from West Bengal.

6 . Dharma Guardian


About Dharma Guardian

  • Exercise DHARMA GUARDIAN is an annual training event which is being conducted in India since 2018. Notably, in the series of military training exercises undertaken by India with various countries Exercise DHARMA GUARDIAN with Japan is crucial and significant in terms of security challenges faced by both the nations in the backdrop of global terrorism.
  • Joint Military Exercise DHARMA GUARDIAN-219 is conducted between India and Japan
  • Indian Army and Japanese Ground Self Defence Forces (JGSDF) will participate in the exercise with an aim to share experience gained during various Counter Terrorism Operations in respective Countries.
  • The scope of this exercise covers platoon level joint training on counter terrorism operations in jungle and urban scenario.
  • The joint military exercise will enhance the level of defence co-operation between Indian Army and Japanese Ground Self Defence Forces (JGSDF) which in turn will further foster the bilateral relations between the two nations.
