1 . DRDO Young Scientist Laboratories
Context : Five new defence laboratories led by under-35 directors and young military scientists were formally launched to drive the country’s war technologies of the future under the Defence Research & Development Organisation.
About DRDO Young Scientist Laboratories
- The labs operating in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Hyderabad will each pursue a key technology necessary for developing the nation’s next generation of defence systems.
- “The establishment of DYSLs will be a big leap forward for the DRDO from the goal of making India self-reliant to [making it] future ready in defence technologies,” a DRDO release said.
- There would be no fund constraints for the new labs and the new leaders get the same administrative and financial powers as the directors of existing defence labs.
- The trigger for the labs apparently came in August 2014 when Mr. Modi suggested that DRDO give its youth pool research opportunities that are challenging as well as decision-making powers.
2 . Krishi Karman Awards
About the Scheme
Under the scheme Two sets of Awards were included.
- One for the total foodgrain Production and the other for the individual foodgrain crops of Rice, Wheat, Pulses and Coarse Cereals.
- There are three categories of awards for total foodgrain production.
- Category 1 is for the States where total foodgrain production exceeds 10 million tons.
- Category 2 is for the States where total food grain production is less than 10 million tons but more than 1 million tons.
- Category 3 is for the States with total food grains production less than 1 million tons.
- Award winning States get a Trophy, a citation and cash award of Rs. 2 crores for total food grains production and an amount of Rs. 1 crore for each of the four crops included in foodgrain.
3 . Political Parties Registration Tracking Management System(PPRTMS)
About PPRTMS
- Registration of political parties is governed by the provisions of Section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
- An association seeking registration under the said Section has to submit an application to the Commission within a period of 30 days following the date of its formation, as per the guidelines prescribed by the Commission in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 324 of the Constitution of India and Section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
- In order to enable applicants to track the status of the application, the Commission has launched a “Political Parties Registration Tracking Management System(PPRTMS)”.
- The salient feature in the PPRTMS is that the applicant, who is applying for party registration from 1st January, 2020 will be able to track the progress of his/her application and will get status update through SMS and e-mail.
- The status can be tracked through the Commission’s portal.
4 . Indian Science Congress
About Indian Science Congress
- The Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) owes its origin to the foresight and initiative of two British Chemists, namely, Professor J. L. Simonsen and Professor P.S. MacMahon.
- It occurred to them that scientific research in India might be stimulated if an annual meeting of research workers somewhat on the lines of the British Association for the Advancement of Science could be arranged.
- To advance and promote the cause of science in India
- To hold an annual congress at a suitable place in India
- To publish such proceedings, journals, transactions and other publications as may be considered desirable.
- To secure and manage funds and endowments for the promotion of Science inlcuding the rights of disposing of or selling all or any portion of the properties of the Association.
- To do and perform any or all other acts, matters and things as are conductive to, or incidental to, or necessary for, the above objects.
- The first meeting of the Congress was held from January 15-17, 1914 at the premises of the Asiatic Society, Calcutta, with the Honourable Justice Sir Asutosh Mukherjee, the then Vice-Chancellor of the Calcutta University, as President. One hundred and five scientists from different parts of India and abroad attended and the papers numbering 35 were divided into six sections-Botany, Chemistry, Ethnography, Geology, Physics, Zoology under six Sectional Presidents.
- From this modest beginning with hundred and five members and thirty five papers communicated for reading at the first session, ISCA has grown into a strong fraternity with more than sixty thousand members till to date.
- The number of papers communicated for reading has risen to nearly two thousand. Upto 2000 there were Sixteen sections,two committes and six forums.
- There are now fourteen sections namely Agriculture and Forestry Sciences, Animal, Veterinary and Fishery Sciences, Anthropological and Behavioural Sciences (including Archaeology and Psychology & Educational Sciences), Chemical Sciences, Earth System Sciences, Engineering Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Information and Communication Science & Technology (including Computer Sciences), Material Sciences,Mathematical Sciences (including Statistics), Medical Sciences (including Physiology), New Biology (including Biochemistry, Biophysics & Molecular Biology and Biotechnology), Physical Sciences, Plant Sciences and one Committee Science & Society.
